Reading the comments following the initial post, I sure feel know like PvP is a geek show.

Not to mention that some of the "this is fun trick-only dumby falls for it" are also people pretending to defend the "casual gamer" approach to GW (as in casual gamer got no time for grind).
You know what? Casual gamers got no time for learning windows keys either. I sure don't.

And if you think that there is any relation between geekiness and ingame skills, chances are, you're in for disappointment. In Total War, I was honored to be the teammates of one of the most humble, welcoming and good player there. The guy would have a very hard time dling additional maps, and if, god forbids, the dled maps were zipped, there were no way he could put them in the right folder.
Over long period, his % of victory was 73%. I got 65%. Over extended period of time, the most consistent and highest % I saw was 75%. He was not the best, but he was just next to it.

He would probably fall for Alt F4: only thing that would save him is lack of teamspeak

TW MP scene is very small, everyone knows each other... I have seen countless time games between rehosted because one player dropped at start, or one player sitting/ withdrawing if an opponent dropped.

So it's pretty sad to find out that GW MP scene is both ultra geeky and unwelcoming. For a game advertised for casual gamers, that's a bad surprise.

What saddens me is how this is considered as humour, especially when you see it before EVERY tombs battle.

Ah well, I guess having people Alt+F4ing to learn about the windows shortcut is more useful than having them in the tombs where they'd probably end up getting squished along with their henchmen friends.

Playing CS for so long, I didn't fall for this when it happened to me. Nor did any of our team. Just drop a line before you even enter the mission that this won't work and unless you have truly unattentive team mates, you will be fine. Personally, I think it's hilarious.

However it is done, this should just not be allowed at all. The ALT-F4 announcement comes when in the Tombs. So here is the scenario. We get past the fight-the-monsters part, and are now waiting for the team rounds to begin. On local chat someone says "hit ALT-F4 to view team stats" or some other junk like that. We lost a few players that way even when we warned them not to do it and that ALT-F4 quits Guildwars because it is a Windows command not a GW command.

I realize not everyone is familiar with all the Windows keyboard shortcuts so the word needs to get out.

And the people who do this announcement....well I won't post here my feelings and thoughts on them.

Simply put they should just add a message "Are you sure you want to exit the game?"

Or "Are you really that stupid and want to see the stats?"

But then again ALT+F4 is a windows command which INSTANTLY closes any program or application, its good since it forces applications to close.

But really not everyone knows this and it is funny to see people in all sorts of games full for it all the time.

It's pretty amazing to me since the PvP atmosphere is actually pretty watered down compared to other games. Old-timey DAoC PvP server? Wow, you had to have some tough skin for that place.

Y'know, mobs don't talk back, if maybe those are more to your liking...
Newsflash, Starbuck -- "old timey" isn't DAoC. The old timers know about when PvP started going down the tubes, it was when the average bored kid with more zits than sense learned there was an "interweb" outside what AOL gave ya and talked mommy and daddy into paying for an online game.

For what it's worth, having someone talk back isn't the problem (stop projecting your mom and dad's issues onto us, m'kay?). It's that, more and more often, it is some idiot kid with more zits than sense that can't open their mouth without saying something so totally idiotic that you just cringe to be around them or in their team, because you hate the idea someone on the other side might think you're just as stupid.

For the most part, the 'old timers' aren't here. Those that are seem to be like myself, retired to PvE for the most part, but pop over into the arena now and then, usually late nights, when you can hope the kiddies are in bed.

Taking advantage of someone's computer illiteracy is not tactical. It's stupid. Just like those who support it.

Do you really want someone who falls for this to be on your team? You're better off being a man down.

I concur with The Virago. I avoid all of the children by playing PvP at 3am. I rarely if ever see the Alt+F4 nonsense then. People who use that to their advantage have no skill, no honor, and need to grow up. Maybe they need a course in online etiquette and ethics.

Thumbs down Peace out but next time post something that contributes to the discussion.

So because you can type pwnt makes you computer literate! Oh please. 50% or more of the people who use computers are considered by definition illiterate on computers. Just for the record one of the definitions of illiterate is having little or no formal education.

And I am sure that includes you. And since you use pwnt it shows your lack of literacy and your age. Kidda like a script kiddy following/stealing someone else's work.

Peace out but next time post something that contributes to the discussion.

I see it as tactics. If I can drop you because Alt+F4, all the better. One less hassle to contend with when the match starts.

Like many people have said, a lot of people don't fall for this twice. I have yet to see a thread on any forums from someone going "Wtf!! Alt+F4 is broken and crashes my game when I try to bring up the score!"

It is tactical. I will exploit my enemy any way possible. I'm 22 years old and see this as a viable tactic. The goal is to win.

You take gaming entirely too seriously. Partly due to age, partly due to lack of ethics (as you admit in the above).

Fortunately, you should outgrow both. One can hope.

Hahaha, I thought you were ignoring me Virago? Because I kept kicking that elitist stepladder out from under you in the grind debate? Should have figured that was a bluff.

Maybe I referred to DAoC because it was my favorite incarnation of PvP to date? Unlike most of you 'old timers' I don't worship pre-Trammel UO like it was the goddamn promised land. It may have been rough but in the end all that mattered was your connection.

Oh I'm sorry, unless you're referring to Gemstone III, or some other worthless antediluvian MUD. Really, do you have to back up every single argument with "I'm so much older than all of you and therefore I know better"?

And honestly, any PvPer who "retires" to PvE probably wasn't much of one in the first place.

Actually lately when playing during daytime hours I have encountered such poor excuses for human beings on teams I have joined that I think the alt-F4 deal might be a good way to get rid of the stupidest of the lot.

But it's not nice. Like the bully in the school.

I have meet some nice naive people who fell for it. They weren't bad people and not knowing a particular keystroke combination doesn't make you stupid or dumb. And shouldn't make you the target of all the insecure people out there who need such things to make themselves look bigger and better in their own eyes.

I think daytime hours, which I agree are pretty bad and I think will stay that way for about 3 months because schools are getting out for the summer, have a predominance of a younger crowd who just don't give a rat's putootie about anything except themselves and what makes them laugh no matter what the expense. They don't care who they trash and their lack of consideration for other human beings is amazing low. Hopefully they are not that way in RL, but my hopes are not founded in anything other than wishful thinking because I believe the true character of person comes out online.

There are a lot of insecure people out there who try to mask their insecurities with arrogance and other various smoke screens. And make themselves feel better about abusing someone by saying it's part of their "tactics."

The ALT-F4 is like the person who plays tricks on a blind person. In RL there would be an uproar for such abuse, but here it's considered "tactics" and "fun." How sad.

Calling of the Herd of you ask me...

When the large group of animals wander too close to the edge of the cliff and the dumb ones stray off the edge leaving the smarter ones around to pro-create.

Yes. This is a dirty trick and I dont support ideals that cause people to have a bad experience online. But if you fall for this then ... theres nothing more I can really say that I already have said.

BTW it's culling not calling. And did you notice that I didn't exploit your lack of knowledge because I knew you used the wrong word or misspelled it?

As I said in a previous post:

The problem with the whole animal theory is we are not animals.
